c. 1874 Gibbs Dairy Farm

When we decided on 251-253 North St. as home for our brewery expansion, we picked it for two main reasons:

  • one - it’s inside the City of Auburn limits, which means public water & sewer - a huge benefit in the brewing world

  • two - it’s 5.5 acres of land that we can build a brand new brewery on instead of retrofitting an existing building **we did that in our 28 State St. brewery, and while it works & we love our pub location, the brewery mechanics & drainage are a constant challenge - we couldn’t imagine that on a large scale

In addition to the land, we ended up with the most amazing bonus .... an extraordinary barn to work with too. How lucky are we?!

This barn is 8000 sq. feet. & has a solid rock foundation. We look forward to restoring it a little bit & using it for future events.

A little history received from previous owners:

Our great, great grandfather, Matthew Gibbs, established Gibbs Dairy Farm there in the mid-late 1800’s. The farm passed to our great-grandfather Charles Champlain and then to our grandfather Harold Short. Our generation has many wonderful memories from our days at the house at 253 North Street and the barn at 251. The barn that stands there presently was built shortly before my birth. - S. Norden
